Stream Processing: An Introduction to Fly Fishing

Introductory and overview
Thursday, Oct 1
4:45 PM - 5:45 PM
Brilliance Ballroom
We spend all day talking about data streams. Let's talk about the other kind. Fly fishing has a reputation for being expensive, complicated, and vaguely intimidating. It isn't. Join Kevin Grossnicklaus and Scott Corio for a relaxed, no-experience-necessary hour on how to actually get started. We'll break down the gear (what each piece does, what you really need, and what you can skip), talk through where to learn, and cover some surprisingly good water within a couple hours of St. Louis. We're bringing rods, reels, flies, and enough equipment to let people check things out, so you can put your hands on the real thing instead of just looking at slides. We'll demo some casting, share photos and stories from our recent trips, and leave plenty of time for questions. Whether you've been curious about it for years or have never once thought about it, come hang out. Worst case, you'll find out why we keep disappearing on weekends.
