Thinking Outside the Docs

Friday, Aug 8 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM Grand Ballroom B

Description

There's no shortage of undocumented open source software out there. But have you ever encountered that puzzling situation where you're trying to learn a framework or tool, and you feel utterly lost even though the project seems to have plenty of documentation?

Chances are that project you're struggling to adopt would benefit from a documentation system. In this session, we'll explore the vital role documentation systems play in open source projects. We'll deconstruct the monolithic concept of "documentation" into a handful of practical documentation types, each with specific audiences and purposes. Folks who attend this talk will get a better understanding of software documentation and practical guidance for effectively using different forms of documentation in concert to help people use, modify, extend, and contribute to their code effectively.
